What is a 4×6 passport photo template?
It is one standard 4-by-6-inch photo canvas containing several correctly sized copies. At 300 DPI, the canvas is 1200×1800 pixels. For U.S. 2×2 photos, two columns and three rows fit exactly, giving six copies.
How the layout stays at physical size
The tool converts the selected millimetres or inches to pixels at 300 DPI, calculates the number of copies that fit, and centers the grid. It does not stretch a photo to fill empty space. Dashed lines are added as cutting guides.
Print without accidental scaling
- Download the 4×6 JPG after checking the preview.
- Choose 4×6 inch photo paper in the printer or lab interface.
- Select Actual Size, 100%, or the equivalent no-scaling option.
- Do not use Fit to Page or Fit to Paper.
- Measure one test copy with a ruler before using it in an application.
When not to use a DIY sheet
Some authorities require commercial capture, professional printing, studio information, or an online digital-photo route. For example, the tool's Canada and Australia entries are labelled as reference crops and show a warning. A correct rectangle is not a complete compliant photo.
Frequently asked questions
Can I print at a pharmacy or photo lab?
Many labs accept a 4×6 JPG, but service options and scaling behavior vary. Check the lab and the authority, then measure the finished print.
Why are there fewer copies for portrait sizes?
A 35×45 or 50×70 mm rectangle occupies a different amount of the 4×6 canvas, so the grid is calculated from the actual dimensions.
Does downloading reduce quality?
The output is generated at the target pixel size and saved as a high-quality JPEG. The original photo still needs enough resolution and sharpness.
