Purpose
Our content is written to help a person understand a specific photo-sizing or printing task and then verify it with the responsible authority. We do not publish advice merely to reach a word count. A guide should answer the practical question, explain meaningful exceptions and show where the final decision comes from.
Source hierarchy
- The government department that receives the application.
- An embassy, consulate or official visa-application page for location-specific instructions.
- An intergovernmental standard or official technical guide.
- Reputable secondary explanation only for non-authoritative context, never to override the receiving authority.
Commercial photo sites, forums and search-result summaries are not treated as proof of a legal requirement.
How dimensions are tested
For each preset, we record the requested physical dimensions. The export canvas uses 300 pixels per inch. Inch-based requirements are converted directly from inches; millimetre-based requirements use pixels = millimetres ÷ 25.4 × 300, rounded to the nearest whole pixel. We then calculate how many copies fit inside a 1200×1800 pixel 4×6 canvas without stretching or clipping.
This test confirms output geometry only. The on-screen preview is scaled by the browser and must not be measured with a physical ruler. A printed test should be measured after choosing Actual Size or 100% in the print dialog.
Printed and digital photos are separated
A digital upload may specify pixel dimensions, file size, compression, color space or an online photo code that does not apply to paper photos. We avoid presenting a printed 4×6 sheet as a digital-upload solution. Where a preset is only a reference crop because an authority requires professional capture or printing, the interface says so before the user uploads anything.
Authorship and review
Guides use the Passport Photo Template Editorial Team byline. The team reviews primary sources, tests the local tool and checks internal links. We do not claim government accreditation or professional-photographer credentials. Pages include their publication and review dates; dates are updated only when content is materially checked or changed.
AI and automation disclosure
AI may assist with drafting, code review or creating a fictional demonstration portrait. Factual requirements are checked against linked primary sources before publication. The demonstration portrait is labelled as AI-generated, represents no real applicant and is not offered as a submission photo. We do not use automation to fabricate government rules, personal experience, test results or author credentials.
Corrections
Send a correction to [email protected] with the page URL, disputed statement and an official source. We review safety- or application-critical reports first. Confirmed errors are corrected in the page and, where material, summarized in a correction note or revision date. We do not remove accurate warnings in exchange for payment.
Advertising separation
Advertising supports site operation but does not determine editorial conclusions. No ad should be styled as a tool button, navigation link or official government action. Sponsored material, if introduced, will be clearly labelled. The editorial team does not promise approval by an authority or by an advertising network.
Review schedule
Core tool presets and major country guides are checked periodically and whenever we learn that an authority has changed its process. A visible “reviewed” date describes our last check, not a promise that the receiving authority has made no later change. The official link remains the final checkpoint.
